Karen Armstrong.

I started reading House of leaves. I read about 30 pages, it's more than 600 pages. it's sitting on my dresser and it keeps calling me. But I don't have time to read such an extensive book, so I think I will wait till the summer.

Instead, I want to read some books by Karen Armstrong. She writes books about religion, mainly the three main monotheistic religions and Buddhism. Her background gives her a unique perspective. She is of Irish descent and she had decided to become a nun, she stayed until she was a professed nun [there's promotions, I am not sure about the significance of it]. But later on she decided to leave the 'institution'. She describes herself as a 'freelance monotheist', she basically believes in a combination of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

I thought this would be a good time to read some of her books, first of all they are unbiased, and they will hopefully help me understand a little more about my own religion, plus I am taking World Religions right now.

One of the things that drew me to her was her biography of Prophet Muhammad, from what I have heard it's not from a religious perspective but looks at his life from a practical or political view.
